Referendum 1A asks for a ½ mill levy in county property taxes to secure the future of Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS).

paw
For the average property owner, the tax will be $9.15 per year or 2 1/2¢ per day.

Colorado statute authorizes counties to establish an animal holding facility.  Chaffee County will not administer a shelter; it will contract with AVHS to continue providing this service.

paw   Animals impounded at Mountain Shadows Animal Hospital will be moved to AVHS for sheltering and care.

paw
Impound Fees previously paid by Salida, Buena Vista, and Chaffee County will be eliminated.

paw   Private fundraising will continue and be used to expand services.

paw   YES on 1A means cost-effective management and care for the county’s homeless, abandoned, and abused animals.
